The next school board meeting is October 27 (details).

How do I participate in the next school board meeting?

Just show up!

It's genuinely helpful to have more interested, curious audience members at the meetings. Support the speakers; applaud the student, teacher and staff recognitions that lead off each meeting; and just be another set of eyes and ears in the room.

It's also a great way to see how public comment works. Speaking of which...

Public Comment

The meetings will have at least two opportunities for public comment: an agenda-items-only portion before the board votes on agenda items; and a non-agenda portion at the end of the meeting. You will also have the opportunity to stand and speak on individual agenda items as they come up for discussion.

You are welcome to speak during any or all of these sections. Each individual comment will be limited to 3 minutes.

Our Instagram page has multiple examples of students and parents giving public comments.

Agenda vs. Non-Agenda

The agenda-items-only portion is for comments specifically related to items to be voted on during the meeting. The meeting's agenda is typically published a few days before the meeting; we'll try to link them here, and copies will always be available at the comment sign-up table.

The non-agenda public comments may be on any topic you wish to bring to the board's attention. Unlike the agenda comments, this portion is not part of the broadcast or recorded video. Consider having a friend record your comment if you wish to have a record of it.

Signing Up

To speak during the public comment sections, you need to sign up at the comment sign-up table before the meeting begins.

Sign-up sheets go out 30 minutes before the meeting's start, and remain available until the public comment actually starts during the meeting. We strongly recommend getting to the meeting in time to sign up before it starts.

If you don't think you'll want to speak, consider signing up for the non-agenda portion anyway. You can specify "general" as your topic, and if something occurs during the meeting that you feel needs comment, you will be able to do so. If you still don't wish to speak, you can just decline when your name is called.
